Porco Bravo “En el mismo sitio”
I start with this album what could be an interesting section of album reviews or any other musical thing that occurs to me…we’ll see how far it goes or doesn’t go…
A member of the band recently came to Kitarshokak and brought me the band’s brand new album. I have to say that I am not a fan but the album has been a pleasant surprise. As soon as I started the album I was surprised by how heavy it started, in a apotheosic way…”I didn’t expect this” I think… Of course, in a few short moments the thing is mixed with more punk rocker tones making the thing navigate throughout the album between a mixture of both styles with a marked rock-based character, all glued with Manu’s voice that constantly reminds me of Rokan from MCD (although each one obviously has its own nuances).
I sense that the heavy style tones come from Kapi on the guitars in which many arrangements are reminiscent of classical music as it could not be otherwise coming from heavy music. The guitars on the album are played with a lot of polish, very well played. I sense that good Marshalls are the basis of guitar sound.
“In the same place” reminds me of Miguel Ríos although in a rougher style.
The song that calls me in particular, the single, the one that has a hook and for me that is a great song is “Déjate llevar” with an ACDC vibe, very rock or even poppy in the choruses, and in which the voice of Laura from Garaje Jack makes a good point. That tambourine that carries the theme forward is the salt and pepper of the song.
“Vuelan las cenizas” I sense that it is a tribute to Pulpo, the member who died a few years ago… an emotional song that speaks of the legacy and eternity in which we can all see ourselves reflected.
I also like the broken arpeggios of “Solamente hoy” and the diminished chords that, in addition to appearing in this song, appear as dark flashes in several parts of the album. The sound of the guitars maintains all the clarity of the notes that are played, without going overboard with the saturation, its just measure.
Drums and bass walk simply but effectively throughout the album, without fanfare but fulfilling their purpose, doing their job well. A French omelette, simple but effective.
Very known names such as Txortx Etxebarrieta, Batiz, Aitor Ariño have participated in the recording and the production has been carried out by Asier, the other guitarist in the band, in addition to the aforementioned Txortx and Batiz. It is a project that starts in 2020 and ends in 2024, recorded and mixed-mastered in different studios such as Lorentzo Records, Altxatune, Radioking and Ultramarinos. The album is presented in digipack format, in striking red… And they have several dates scheduled for auditoriums soon!
